When it comes to red lipstick, I’m not biased. My main focus is just finding a good formula with amazing wear. If it costs less than $10, that’s even better! I’ve spent years buying and trying red lipsticks just seeing if they are worthy of entering my rotation of favorites. Never has a drugstore red lipstick joined those ranks so fast! Keep reading to learn why I love it so much!
A few months ago, I was perusing the beauty aisles of Target with my friend Kristyne when we came across the Maybelline SuperStay Matte Ink liquid lipsticks. We were instantly drawn to it and specifically the shade Pioneer because we both love a good red— especially a promising-looking affordable one. She decided to buy and try it that day since she was running low on her go-to, I held off as I wasn’t and waited to hear her thoughts. For the following next 2 weeks, Kristyne raved about this lipstick and how it was her new favorite! So, of course, I had to try it for myself!
Even after my first day of trying it, I knew I loved it. It had such amazing staying power and didn’t budge through eating! After a few more weeks of trying, I was sold and felt very confident and excited to share this lucky find with y’all!
Let’s talk specs!
The SuperStay Matte Ink line is priced at $9.49 most places which makes this the perfect option if you don’t want to shell out a ton of money for a lip product.
It applies evenly, smoothly, and smells yummy to boot!
This lipstick is a liquid to completely matte formula. That means it dries completely and doesn’t transfer when eating, drinking, or kissing ;)
Stays looking fresh on the lips for 10+ hours (this has been the case for me)
Pioneer leans towards a more berry red than true red! I typically lean towards true red or blue based reds, but I have found myself really loving this color during these past winter months and still love it when my outfit calls for a less blue-red.
Some draw-backs/ things to consider:
One of my only small issues that I have about this lipstick is that it is slightly drying on the lips. So if you have chapped lips, this will accentuate that.
You may also not like this if you like the feel of a lipstick with slip (the ability to rub your lips together and them feel wet). It also is one that doesn’t layer well if you need to reapply.
This lipstick does slightly wear off in the inner ring of your lips (like a lot of other matter formulas do) so I recommend being careful if you reapply to that area by using the smallest amount and only applying where needed. If it has worn off more than that, I recommend taking it off completely with a tissue and reapplying for an even, fresh layer!
Other than that, this lipstick has thoroughly impressed me and even if you aren’t looking for a red, I would try any of the other 20 colors in this range!
I so hoped y’all enjoyed this post!
I’ll be sharing some more of my favorite lipsticks in the coming weeks!
Until next time…
